Rare Photographic Exhibition
at Front Room at St Martins Lane
Ltd. Edition Clothes Collection
at DOVER STREET MARKET
Facilitating a first ever collaboration between The Inoue Brothers and former confidante of the late downtown NYC artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, “The High Priest” Nicholas Taylor, a photographic exhibition Jean-Michel Basquiat through Nicholas Taylor, which will take place in Front Room.
Paying homage to the artist from a candid new perspective, the collection of photographs magnify a remarkable creative relationship between Taylor and Basquiat that emerged from experimental 1980s band GRAY consisting of Taylor, Basquiat, Michael Holman and Vincent Gallo, declared at the time by Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine as ‘possibly the best band on the planet’. Capturing the spirit of the late 70s and early 80s downtown NYC art scene, Front Room will house a unique collection of photographs shot by both Taylor and Basquiat with images from the Mudd club and GRAY performing at various venues in down town NYC. In conjunction with the exhibition and to showcase the intrinsic link between art and fashion, the Inoue brothers have designed an exclusive clothing range which will be stocked in Dover St Market. Used as canvases, the collection incorporates classic styles from well known labels such as Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Pendleton Woolen Mills and 1969 vintage Levi’s upon which The Inoue Brothers have employed discharge printing technique to bring the never before seen images to life. Each garment also has a written message originally drawn from Nick’s diary during his time with Basquiat.
