Gift Offer: Limited Tenugui with Knitwear Purchase
We were introduced to @nihashisenkou by @takayuki.yajima_ of @yandsons.
Nihashi-san’s passion for Japanese Tenugui craft is exciting, and his commitment to educating the local community, including school children, about the millennia-old traditions is incredibly inspiring.
The origin of Tenugui towels dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 C.E.), evolving from luxury silk to everyday items as cotton became accessible during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Today, Tenugui is used widely, and its Chusen dyeing is an unmistakable characteristic of Japanese cultural expression.
Traditional Chusen dyeing is a Japanese hand-dyeing technique using paste resist paper stencils and pouring dye from a kettle onto layered fabric to create double-sided patterns ideal for Tenugui towels as it maintains the absorbable ability of cotton.
To celebrate this ancient tradition and our continuous Kimono collaboration, we have created our very own Tenugui design together with Y. & SONS.
This Tenugui is only available as a promotional novelty gift when purchasing any knitwear from our online shop. There are only 30 Tenuguis available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you need a new jumper or a sweater in these cold times, take this opportunity to receive an extra special gift from us.
