Since Satoru and his family relocated to Okinawa from Copenhagen a few years ago, we have immersed ourselves in the creative community on the island and have been working with Ryukyu Indigo Labo for our Ryukyu Blues Project.

Ryukyu Indigo Labo is the only remaining Okinawan dyeing facility, which follows the process from the growing of the indigo plant to dyeing the final garment. Our collaboration with Ryukyu Indigo Labo, using our Natural Pima Cotton from Peru, expresses the unique depth and precision of traditionally dyed indigo garments and the beauty of the Ryukyu culture.

*Ryukyu is the ancient name for the southern Japanese islands of Okinawa.

Ryukyu Blues Products

Sweatshirt / Ryukyu Aizome

This sweatshirt is dyed with Ryukyu indigo, a natural indigo dyeing process that focuses on natural materials and the use of naturally occurring fermentation bacteria.

In order to maximise the unique texture and colour of Ryukyu indigo, the entire process from soil preparation to dyeing is carried out in Okinawa, while maintaining traditional techniques and methods. The body is made from organic Pima cotton produced without fertiliser or pesticide from indigenous Peruvian seeds.

*Because of the hand-dyeing process, there are individual differences.

Ryukyu Aizome Sweat

Crew Neck T-shirt / Ryukyu Aizome

The characteristic of our Pima cotton is its longer, silkier fiber compared to traditional cotton. This makes the garment softer and smoother to touch and is produced under strict organic textile standards.

*Because of the hand-dyeing process, there are individual differences.
